Blake and Amy's Engagement Shoot

Blake and Amy showed me a gorgeous spot in the hills of southern Oklahoma. Goes to show you that there are patches of beautiful terrain in our state. You just have to look for them...far away from OKC.

Brad & Sherree's rooftop wedding.

Brad & Sherree's rooftop wedding.

Katie and I were married 9 years ago this August. Since then we've photographed a lot of amazing weddings, remembering a little piece of each of them and tucking it away for our "re-wedding". Someday, when our sons are old enough to participate, we'll renew our vows in style. Our wedding was short and sweet. One of those "drop the gift, grab some cake, we'll see ya" kinda deal. It was a really fun day, but weddings are so much more intentional now. Intentional has to be the word I'd use to describe Brad & Sherree's wedding. With help from Gibson Events; they had a meaningful and light-hearted party with all their friends and family. They just happenend to have a surprise ceremony right in the middle of it.

The day started with the normal wedding prep routine for the bride and groom. We shot all their beautiful details at the Colcord Hotel; these two have impeccable style! ( Sherree's dress by BHLDN) Meanwhile, the guests arrived to the OKC Muesum of Art rooftop under the impression Brad & Sherree had already done their vows at the courthouse and they were coming for a reception in celebration of the couple. There was a band, cakes from Cuppies and Joe, food and drink. Not to mention the OKCMOA rooftoop is one of the best spots in the city at sunset. Meanwhile, Brad and Sherree were sharing an intimate meal at the Colcord with their immediate family and closest friends. We shot a few portraits downtown as we strolled to the Musuem. When the couple arrived they were introduced with applause and toasts. After some greetings, just after sunset, Sheree donned a veil and the crowd instinctually formed an aisle. Under lights and before the city skyline they exchanged vows, prayed and were married then and there.

Everyone cried. It was awesome.

More celebration ensued. Sherree sang a song to Brad. Fireworks on the skyline highlighted the last dance. Off they went in a perfect Mustang convertible. It was different, but not for the sake of just being different. It was absolutely "them".

Intentionality. Filed under re-wedding.

Shane and Julie's engagements

What a wonderful couple! We had a lot of laughs. Shane is a fellow sailor, so Julie had to endure all kinds of sailing conversation during our shoot. Sorry Julie. I truly hope to stay connected with them. I'll be posting their super cool wedding one of these days. Stay tuned for that.

We photographed Brian and Mandy's wedding a couple years ago. We are big fans of everyone in their family.  They're thoughtful, kind people. I was honored to spend some more time with Brian, Mandy and little Max. He's quite the chip off of Brian's block! [blogshow id=4b69 player=0 autoplay=0 toolbar=1]

We have moved into album design season around here. I'm working on a design concept for Davis and Mackenci and their families and thought I'd share a few from their wedding. They worked with Kimber Hall of Blueberry Hill Events to put together an amazing wedding in downtown OKC.

Whats the expression that says "without action, dreams are only good ideas? " I think it goes something like that. When I shared an office with Lindsay Gibson there was a lot of dreaming going on. We'd talk about our industry and how much room there is for change. The thing is; Lindsay is a do-er. She makes things happen, and they happen flawlessly. So, when she told me about this idea to have a styled shoot, that became a real life styled event I jumped onboard to help. Lindsay can explain it much better than I can. Here are her thoughts, shared from Southern Weddings

"As a planner I’m frequently asked for recommendations for photographers, and to describe each photographer’s style. I thought it might be interesting to style a large scale photo shoot and have several photographers capture it in the way they saw fit. My hope was for the result was to have a side by side contrast of the same event through four lenses.

We gathered four couples (all former clients from the past year) and got to it. We assigned a couple to each photographer. To make sure we weren’t playing favorites we styled the shoot as an engagement or dinner party so no one got the “bride and groom”.

It took a pretty awesome looking spreadsheet but we managed for each photographer to have time with their couple alone, with everyone together, to shoot each vignette individually and to shoot each vignette with their couple.

For this shoot we had a specific aesthetic in mind and really lucked into our venue. Luckily the good people at Calvert’s Plant Interiors were willing to trust the vision and allowed us to come in on a Sunday, when they were closed, and basically take over the site.

The second purpose of the shoot was to have an awesome collection of photos to promote The Ball and Chain; A thoughtfully curated bridal show that doesn’t feel like torture. This will be a small, boutique bridal event featuring the vendors below and a few more of our dearest friends in the business that share our aesthetic. Coming to Oklahoma City on January 24, 2013."

What you can see below is my perspective on the incredible scene that Lindsay and her staff put together. I was able to shoot with Brad and Sherree again, which was a blast. I loved the work, the experience and the food was amazing. But more than that; these folks are just great to be around. I'm so fortunate to be able to work with these friends!

I'd be remiss if I didn't let you know that you can still snag a ticket to the real life Ball and Chain party on the 24th here in OKC! It's sure to be beautiful and memorable. If you're planning your wedding, there will be a handful of great people there and I heard theres a $2000 cash prize for the winner of the dance off. What!?

Here's the team that made all this happen. Smile Lindsay, good job!

Jon and Francie's Manhattan engagement photos

Jon and Francie were the most wonderful hosts while I was in Manhattan to shoot with them. They took me to all their favorite spots. Coffee, drinks, dinner....the works! Can I just say, I had the most amazing lobster roll I've ever had in my life to top off our shoot. Can't get a lobster roll like that in OKC. What a great memory, I can't wait to return the favor next time I'm in NYC!

One Frame

This is one of my favorite photos of my career. Laura comes down the stairs to her Dad and a new chapter of life. Wonderful moment. After spending the day with their family, I know that this photo says something true.

Brad and Sherree's engagement shoot

Look who's blogging photos again! I legitamately forgot the password to my blog it's been so long. I thought I'd do another back to back post of Brad and Sherree. They're my kind of folks. We shot at their favorite coffee house and their home. Ya know, just simple, honest photographs. I like that.

If I could dote on them a just a bit more.... Brad is a creative director and an impeccable designer and Sherree is a musician that brings us all joy. I'm glad to know them both! I'm working on a post from their wedding day. Stay tuned!
